Oh what paint can do

I love how much a new coat of paint can transform something be it a room or a piece of furniture. I once rented a room sight unseen only to discover that the previous owner had brightened things up with fire-engine red walls!

Oh the joys! The good news is it launched me into a bedroom do-over that turned out pretty well all things considered. I choose a tan to replace the red.

Later my wife and I purchased a condo and found red paint again: this time in the laundry room.

I guess red does have its appeal in a dark space, but we had other plans. In part the brightness of the color makes the lighting feel harsh. Light wall colors diffuse light through the room creating more of a daylight feel.

A 100 watt lightbulb and a coat of light paint did wonders! We also updated the flooring with a groutable vinyl tile. This was the first time I had heard of such a thing. In fact spell-check is a little unsure of the word "groutable" but it does in fact exist (as did the tile).

You know, the more I think about the color red the more projects I can remember where it featured prominently. Every time it was a color I was painting over. Maybe it was really popular in the recent past.

It seems every time I've encountered red things improved in direct proportion to painting over it. Something worth pondering...
